If it’s been a long time since you were last in church, or even if you’ve never been to a church before, you’re probably wondering what to expect during the service. Here are some of the main things that go on, and if you have any questions about them please contact us -

The Music

We love to worship God because of how amazing He is and because He has done so much for us. Music has the power to speak to the heart, so a lot of our worship on a Sunday is expressed through songs. Our band leads us in contemporary, uplifting songs that allow us to express our heartfelt love toward God.

Song words appear on a screen at the front of the auditorium, so people are free to express their worship as they choose – some raise their hands to God, some clap, some are silent. God delights in all worship that comes from an honest heart.

The Teaching

We believe the Bible teaches us how to live a successful life God’s way – for real life issues like your relationships, career and family. This is why we teach from the Bible in a way that is practical and relevant to today’s lifestyles. What you learn on a Sunday you can apply during the week, because God wants to help us in our daily lives.

Prayer

As we grow in God, we come closer to Him through prayer – simply communicating with Him. At our Sunday services we often pray all together for different needs, sometimes all praying out loud. At church we aren’t just meeting with each other, but we are there to meet with God.

Financial Giving

The Bible encourages us to live a lifestyle of generosity, including with our finances. It talks about giving tithes (10% of your income) and offerings (over and above the tithe) to the church and we give an opportunity during our services for people to give.

If you think about it, it’s quite natural for people to want to give to church when being a Christian and part of a church has such a positive affect on their lives. Ultimately, we are not giving to a church, but to God. God isn’t looking to be repaid but He does delight in a cheerful giver, as the act of giving reveals the condition of our hearts toward Him.

The offering time is for those who are part of Elim Church, so if it’s your first time in church then we just want you to enjoy the service and not feel obliged to give.

Welcome Time

In most of our meetings we have a Welcome Time halfway through when you’re free to wander round, say hi to people, or get a cup of water from the water cooler! We’ve found that this time injects a great level of positivity and reflects our love of being together.
