JUNE 2008 - COMMISSIONING 'THE ARK'

 

Elim Youth & Community Building's
Commissioning Ceremony & Summer Barbecue



On a hot and sunny afternoon in June, Elim Church Newcastle officially commissioned its new Youth & Community Building!

God provided beautiful sunshine for this glorious day where 200 people from the church and community joined together to celebrate this new facility for Newcastle's East End.

 

 

 

 

After Rotimi Jaiyesimi declared the church's vision and dream to the crowd who had gathered, Lawrence Kidd prayed for God to bless the building as a "centre of excellence for the community".

The sense of expectation and excitement reached a crescendo when Councillor Chris Bartlett (South Heaton Ward) officially opened the building with the cutting of a gold ribbon. The crowd then poured into the new building, a 'House of Miracles' for the people of Newcastle's East End.

 

 

 

For the rest of the afternoon the place was buzzing with activity - the kids leapt around the bouncy castle and got their faces painted, crafts were going on in every room, sunflower seeds were planted, boys and girls got energetic at the dance workshop, people expressed their creativity at the art workshop, and EVERYBODY got stuck into the delicious barbecue in the church garden!



 

 

 

 

Providing us with entertainment during the afternoon were the winners of The Evening Chronicle's Battle of The Bands 2008 - 'The Mojitos', a great new band in the North East.



 

 

 

Our thanks go to over 50 volunteers from the church who made the day a wonderful success - helping out in catering, hosting, children's activities, and even road safety! It was a great occasion in the 50th year of Elim Church Newcastle to welcome the community into a very special new building. ...and after all that hard work, the adults decided to outwork their energies on the bouncy castle!
