PRESS RELEASE FROM AQUILA WAY, 09-MARCH-09

Although Christmas now seems like a distant memory, it felt just like yesterday for local homeless charity Aquila Way as they received a post-festive gift in order to help the North East’s homeless young people.

A much appreciated £750 cheque was received at the weekend by the charity’s Chief Executive, Jo Grant; donated by Elim Pentecostal Church in Heaton.

In this current economic climate, Gateshead based Aquila Way have seen the demand for their homeless services dramatically increase. As a contemporary and growing church in Newcastle's East End, Elim Pentecostal Church felt the need to respond to the current plight of young people in the North East region with nowhere to live and figures dramatically increasing on a daily basis.

Rev. Lawton commented, “Every Christmas time Elim Pentecostal Church, in Heaton, Newcastle, choose a charity to support, and last year we chose Aquila Way. We wanted to support a local charity that is reaching out to the poor and disadvantaged in our community, for which Aquila Way does a truly outstanding work.

"Their team always goes the extra mile and we felt this aligned with the message of hope that Christmas brings. Our congregation and visitors were pleased to sow generously into this great work and we hope our donation goes some way to transforming lives in 2009.”

The funds donated will contribute to the charity’s aim in broadening their services throughout the region and extending their current provision.
