The Elim Church has been making a difference in the lives of people in the North East for over 50 years, ever since it was established in Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1957.
A 'Great Public Revival & Divine Healing Crusade', led by the evangelist Rev PS Brewster, took place in Newcastle City Hall in September 1957 and many were converted and healed.
An advert in The Evening Chronicle, published during the month-long crusade, reads:
“Over 1500 people attended last Sunday. Bible Days are Here Again. Hundreds of men and women are receiving divine healing through prayer.”
After the crusade, this newly formed Church rented a building on Gloucester Road in Cruddas Park, until the area was redeveloped. At this point, in the early 1960s, it moved into the present building on Heaton Road, the former Heaton Congregational Church.
Today, Elim Church continues to reach out to the community in a relevant and practical way. So much so that they are seeking ways to expand and truly work out their vision of being a 21st century church, including the opening of their second building on Heaton Road - The Ark, a brilliant facility for children, youth and community activities. For the future, Elim seeks to continue making a difference in people's lives with the life-changing power of Jesus Christ.
